Child Growth and Development

     The purpose of child growth and development is to get the individual to the stage of a healthy adulthood, which is physically defined by the completion of growth and the individual's sexual maturity and fertility. Growth and development that is successful promotes health, not only physically but also emotionally and psychologically. 

    By definition, GROWTH refers to the increase in the physical size of the child’s whole body. It can be measured in kilograms, pounds, meters, inches, etc.

Types of growth:
  • Physical growth 
  • Physiological growth

    DEVELOPMENT is the progressive improvement of the child’s psychomotor skills and capacity of functioning. It can be measured through observation.

Types of growth:
  • Motor development
  • Cognitive development
  • Emotional development
  • Social development

    MATURATION describes the increase in a child’s competence and adaptability. The level and speed depend on the child’s heredity.
